Houston Water Wall

In January 2024, we visited Houston and went to the Waterwall to shoot some images.

The Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park, formerly the Williams Waterwall and the Transco Waterwall, is a multi-story sculptural fountain that sits opposite the south face of Williams Tower in the Uptown District of Houston. The fountain and its surrounding park were built as an architectural amenity to the adjacent tower.

Staircase to the Temple

We end our series on Stairs with an image of stairs leading the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Atlanta, Georgia – a traditional Hindu mandir, or place of worship, inaugurated on August 26, 2007. This temple is a masterpiece of exquisite Indian design and workmanship.

Water Staircase

Aysgarth Falls are a triple flight of waterfalls, surrounded by woodland and farmland, carved out by the River Ure over an almost one-mile stretch on its descent to mid-Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales of England, near the village of Aysgarth. One could see the natural formation of “stairs” for water to flow through the river.

Symmetry of Stairs

There is a lot of symmetry in the stairs of the State of Virginia Capitol building in Richmond adding character and class of Palladian architecture. Palladian architecture is a European architectural style derived from the work of the Venetian architect Andrea Palladio. What is today recognized as Palladian architecture evolved from his concepts of symmetry, perspective and the principles of formal classical architecture from ancient Greek and Roman traditions.

Stairs

Similar to Reptiles one, our Catawba Valley Camera Club is having a competition on “Stairs.” Since I can’t submit images for this competition, I have searched in my library of photos and will be posting related images.

Here is an image of stairs of a lighthouse in Outer Banks, North Carolina taking the photo of symmetrical stairs from the top looking down. The ordered layout the bricks adds to the image.

Rain Storms

While thunderstorms with heavy rain (as shown in this image) make people concerned about floods, road destruction, and property damage, the post storm period offers several interesting rain drop photo opportunities. We will present some of those images in the next few days.

A Reptile Charmer

We end the series on reptiles with a human interaction with a reptile – a Cobra snake!

Snake charming is the practice of appearing to hypnotize a snake by playing and waving around an instrument called a pungi. A typical performance may also include handling the snakes or performing other seemingly dangerous acts, as well as other street performance staples, like juggling and sleight of hand. We found this snake charmer on a street in New Delhi, India.
